I want to be a tank commander but i am really tall?
I am 12 years old and 6′1″, and 180 pounds. I know i could do it, but i heard somewhere you have to be a certain height to be in a tank. I am really worried i won’t be able to achieve my dream of commanding a Abrams Tank. Does anybody know?
if 6′2″ is the cutoff then what other armored vehicle can i drive? Srry, i just don’t think i am gonna stop growing.
uh, i am not interested in sports. My family has been in the army since the revolution. Dad wimped out but i intend not to.
Is driving one of those armored cars with the machine gun fun? I wouldn’t mind that.
6′2″ is the magic cut off. Don’t grow, kid.
Edit: We don’t really do the “armored car with a Maching gun” thing anymore, but is it possible you’re talking about an MRAP or Humvee?
I’m 6′3″ so I didn’t get to be a tanker. Instead I became a Fire Support Specialist (13F) which turned out to be much better for me anyway. The weird thing was, the old little boxy vehicle I was in was MUCH smaller than a tank. It’s ironic. You could join as an 11B, 19D, 13F etc and once they get to your unit they will assign you based on your size. I had a team leader who was 6′6″ or so when we got to Iraq, we realized it was impractical for him to sit in an up armored HUmvee for 8+ hours a day without causing long term problems. He got moved to the headquarters platoon.
Your best bet is to be in a light Infantry unit, probably. On the bright side, the new MRAPs are a little more spacious. Good luck.
